Greetings Neighbours,
The Greenhithe Residents Ratepayers and Community Hall Committee draw your attention to and seek your support of our campaign to get the road-side, on the Park side of Greenhithe Road, repaired to the standard of the road-side parking in Roland Road.
This has been an ongoing battle against the bureaucrats who find it easier to say 'no' rather than to look at the logic of the argument. Please read the attached submission.
You can assist by emailing your support in your own words to ...@northshorecity.govt.nz" target="_blank" href="mailto:Vivi...@northshorecity.govt.nz" style="color: blue; text-decoration: underline; ">Vivi...@northshorecity.govt.nz
A submission is required this week, please.
We thank you in anticipation of your support.

Re – Street-side Parking Greenhithe Road
Dear Community Board,
I write on behalf of our Committee about a matter that is considered to be a community safety, convenience and appearance priority.
For some time we have been making approaches to Council Officers with regards the roadside drainage from Greenhithe Road in two places between the school and the Kyle Rd round-about. The water drains off these two sections of road, without gutters, into a swale.
The access to the grass verge invites people to park off the road on the verge for obvious safety reasons. Twelve months ago we approached Council with a request to remedy this situation by installing Gobi blocks. We predicted that it would become a bog! And it has! We got a ‘no’ that we do not accept!
The Committee’s reasons for their request are;
- The School end park-side is an excellent off road parking place for parents dropping off and picking up children from school. This widens the road at this exit point of the round-about and makes the exit and entry to vehicles much safer. Estimated usage per week – 200 vehicles.
- The Wainoni Park end park-side is a convenient parking place for Park users. It prevents the narrowing of the carriageway that would occur if vehicles parked on the road. This is Greenhithe’s busiest road and the principal entry to our village. Estimated usage per week (longer stays) – 50 plus vehicles.
- The residents along that strip and their visitors use both these park-side areas to park safely off the carriageway. Estimated usage per week (longer stays) – 50 plus vehicles.
- The local Coffee van parks in the area near the Reserve and provides a valuable and popular service to Greenhithe Residents. Estimated usage per week – 200 vehicles.
- Our request is not only about the safety and convenience of the 500 plus users of these park-side areas but about the absolute mess that this bog has become, right at the doorstep of our beautiful Greenhithe. Our Committee, whom have had many reasons to be grateful to the North Shore City Council, are on this occasion bitterly disappointed that this request has not been recognised as logical, practical and reasonable!
Please refer to the Photos of Greenhithe’s bog enclosed.
The recommended solution;
- That Council recognises that the original design was fundamentally flawed which has lead to this unsatisfactory situation.
- That funding is sought from the departments whom have a vested interest in remedying this matter. Being the Community Board. Parks and Reserves because of the Park usage of these areas. Roading for safety reasons. The North Shore City Council because this area is a terrible reflection on our City.
- The remedy, as we see it, is the laying of Gobi blocks as done so well in Roland Road , Photo enclosed.
- Our request is that this happen as a priority as we have been requesting this for many months and do not believe that it has received the hearing that it deserves.
The writer and/or his Committee members are available to meet with Council representatives or Community Board members on the site to discuss the options for remedying this problem at your convenience.

Kind Regards
