Linda COOPER

Citizens & Ratepayers - Lets make our Region succeed.

Four years as a Community Board member in the early nineties and the past six years as a councillor on the Waitakere City Council. Chairman of the Northern Strategic Growth Area Urban Development Committee. Member of the Auckland Regional Transport Committee and Auckland Regional Sustainable Development Forum.

I have a strong record of regional governance and wide understanding of the big picture of Auckland which means I am  well suited  to meet the standard that will be  required of  Councillors on the new Auckland Council. I have worked with councillors from Rodney to Franklin so I know how to work as a team to make our region succeed. I am committed to making sure that essential development necessary for growth goes in appropriate places and doesn't spoil our villages and coastal settlements which bring the contrast and character to the built up urbanised areas of Auckland.

I am the person that can give the diverse Albany Ward  a strong voice that is capable of speaking up for a widespread ward and is comfortable in a regional environment. Fully willing to support our local Upper Harbour Local Board and support its Annual Plan.

Greenhithe is the place our family like to escape to for weekend brunches and visiting our friends.

If elected I will be in close contact with you and your Local Board members making sure your voice is heard at the Council table and your Local Plan is supported.

The Short Answer is YES, Greenhithers should be fully involved in developing your own Village Plan.

I have experience of this process because in the last year I have been involved in Local Area Plans for the rural villages in the Waitakere Ranges. This has been an important process in ensuring local people put together their "bottom lines" for what they want to happen or not happen where they live. These plans will now feed into the District Plan which will in time feed into the Spatial Plan for Auckland which the first Auckland Council will work on in its early years.

Master planning is the best way to plan for how a community wants a place to be so I believe that a Village Plan is the ideal way to ensure that ad hoc development doesn't creep up cumulatively to destroy the special village nature of old Greenhithe. When there is no plan then suddenly you turn around and realise that it is too late and character has been destroyed with no going back. This will allow guidelines and boundaries to be set by the community that give strong guidance to planning commissioners when they are hearing and making judgments on development applications.

The Village Plan for Greenhithe    - Start the process as soon as possible so it can be part of the Spatial Plan for the region

A Park for Youth that meets their needs and aspirations, a place they can call their own.

Managing roading maintenance to minimize erosion, drainage and flooding problems
