Ross CRAIG

Accountable Independant

Established a local ratepayer association 8 years ago.

Elected to Rodney District Council 2007.

Was Census District Supervisor for the Albany area which included Greenhithe area in 2006

I am committed to keeping the present greenbelt.   As a Councillor I have pressed hard to preserve the greenbelt. Pior to this our local ratepayer association was set up to keep the Okura Catchment green,  which involved opposing  a large cleanfill operation. I took this issue right up to mediation before the Environment Court.

Given my background I fully support Greenhithe residents in their commendable focus to enhance/preserve a green landscape.

I believe that if there is not a Structure Plan for the Greenhithe Village then one needs to be developed and I would fully support such a measure.

  1. To proactively empower the two Local Boards.  For  the Upper Harbour Board I will prioritise developing excellent communication with each Board member and after a chairperson is elected develop a close working and positive relationship with him/her.
  2. I will pursue a fiscally tight agenda when it comes to keeping Council costs and thereby rates to a modest level.
  3. I will work hard to acheive more efficiency in public bus transport within the ward.  I am very concerned about the level of traffic congestion in the central Albany area and will seek to promote iniatives such as feeder bus services, more car pooling and  more flexible working hours.

My general policies for which I expect to be held to account are-

1. For elected Council members to have more control over the CCO's so that public interest is preserved.

2. I will oppose the sale of public assets especially water and the Ports of Auckland.

3. I am concerned to protect/enhance quality natural environments such as  bush reserves.

4. Around the Auckland Council table I will fight hard for the people of our Albany Ward. As a proven team player I will strategise with the other Albany Councillor to get the best possible deal for Alany residents and ratepayers.
