Sara Wei WALKER

Shore Voice - Your Voice North of the Bridge

I commit to listen to you, and I enjoy interacting with people in the community.  I am studying landscape design, which gives me knowledge and understanding of the needs and value of Green areas in our society.

I am well-organised, dependable and willing to work hard on behalf of the residents of Greenhithe.

I have lived mostly on the north shore since coming NZ from China 8 years ago, and have visited the area to visit friends, and to look at the good examples of suburban landscape design that contribute to the ecosystem.

Support the Greenhithe community to progress the village plan and knowledge of landscape design will be an asset to the process.

  1. To listen to the residents of Greenhithe to find out all the issues that they have.
  2. To act on their behalf at the local board especially when prioritising projects.
  3. To protect the special lifestyle that Greenhithe residents have.

Sara Wei Walker has lived on the North Shore since she moved to New Zealand from China in 2002. She has worked in a variety of jobs and has studied to improve her qualifications. In early 2004, she completed a Postgraduate Diploma of Business (majoring in marketing) at Massey University, Albany. She worked as a part time Real Estate agent for 3 months at Ray White Glenfield branch. Because she had a strong background in the tourism industry in China, ANZ Holiday Travel Ltd invited her to join their team. She successfully guided over 1500 Chinese tourists in New Zealand during February 2004 - March 2005. She accumulated the knowledge of geography and local conditions throughout New Zealand, which helped her to understand the culture of New Zealand. In June 2005, she bought a lotto outlet at Milford Shopping centre where she has worked as a shopkeeper almost every day for 4 years. She sold the business in September 2009 and is currently studying landscape design at Unitec.

Sara is an approachable person who enjoys communicating with people and works well as part of a team. Her work experience and academic studies have helped her to assimilate well into New Zealand society. Sara has readily settled on the North Shore and values the Shore lifestyle. She has recently married a long time Shore resident. Her cultural background and language skills (fluent in Mandarin, Cantonese and English) gives her a very good understanding of people from different backgrounds and cultures and the challenges faced by these migrants in their new country.

She believes the new city structure will present many challenges, and residents will need someone like her to represent them  - a person who is well organised, dependable and willing to work hard on their behalf.
