Community Constable March 2010

We have had a few incidents in Greenhithe of late. There have been around 3 burglaries on Greenhithe Rd and Upper Harbour Drive on and around the 4th March (Thursday). These were day burglaries. A silver/grey car with 2 males in it has been spotted on several occasions around this date. This spotting varied from sitting outside the school in a car to reports of guys knocking on doors pretending to be "plumbers". Anyone with more info on descriptions of these males or more details on the car is invited to send this info to me. Several people have noticed this car, thought it was "strange" and suspicious yet did not write down the numberplate which could have been a very good lead. Once more, if you feel it is suspicious, it probably is!! All you have to do with the info is email the rego's or descriptions to me and if anything happens, at least I have the information to forward to our intel department.

There have been a lot of mailbox damages and bus stop smashings as well over the last few months. The good news is that several people have been arrested for these offences so please keep up the reporting as reparation will be sought when offenders are arrested.

Tagging is increasing again in Greenhithe, too, especially around the Ponyclub. Please keep an eye out for suspicious behaviour and don't hesitate phoning in to the non emergency nr 477 5000 or 111 if it is occurring and you are watching it.

There is some interest in putting in 2 camera's in Greenhithe, on Greenhithe Road and Tauhinu Rd and I would like to hear your ideas on this. These camera's would not be pointing at anyone's house of course.

Any info that you want to put through anonymously can be done to CRIMESTOPPERS as well 0800 555 111. For people that haven't heard of it before, this is a phone line to the UK where info gets recorded but NOT who is giving the info. It is guaranteed to be anonymous. Any drug dealing suspicions and/or other criminal activity can be phoned in and will be investigated on its own merit back here in NZ.
Take care and if there is anything of interest, please email me.

Community Constable Nov 09

This month there is so much to write about I do not know where to start really.

Starting with the worst incidents which happened on Saturday night 20/11/09 onto Sunday morning 21/11/09. I have had 3 burglaries reported and 3 theft ex-cars. 5 of these incidents happened in Rame Rd and 1 in Almond Grove. Did anyone see anything suspicious????? Please think and report... Any information will be treated confidentially. Some of the houses were along long driveways so don't think you are safe living quite far from the road....And if there are any more incidents that have not been reported I urge you to do so.

I keep on hammering on and on about the following but it is very important to get your cars fingerprinted after an incident!!!!!!!.And keep on noting any rego's from suspicious cars, phone 477500 or 111!!!! If you drive home late at night and their are cars on your road, maybe just take a notepad and write down any numbers of numberplates or descriptions of people walking the roads.

Another problem brought to my attention is the roundabout from Tauhinu Overbridge going to SH18 onramp. Several motorist have been seen undertaking the roundabout driving straight onto the onramp. This is dangerous practice and has been brought to the Traffic Departments attention.
Rego's checked come back to residents of Greenhithe so be warned.

Traffic units have been vigilant on Greenhithe Rd and Orwell Rd and a lot of drivers are still being fined for speeding. Some residents insists on verbally abusing the officers when they get tickets but remember you have only yourself to blame!!

Most people by now might have heard about 0800 555 111 CRIMESTOPPERS. This is a strictly confidential Crime-Line if you have any information relating to any criminal activity or persons of interest. The phone line goes through to the UK and any important urgent business will be referred to the Police in NZ immediately but no phone numbers/names are recorded. Any useful information will be investigated on its own merits by Police in NZ.

FOUND: Thursday morning by a person walking their dog; A black wallet with an image on the front. Please contact me if this belongs to you.

On a good note: In relation to the boat burglaries of 2 boats out on the moorings in Greenhithe. Some youth offenders coming from the Kumeu have been arrested and most of the stolen goods have been returned to their rightful owners.

Keep safe

Community Constable October 09

It has been a fairly uneventful month since my last article which I suppose is good news. In relation to the boat burglaries I reported last month, the offenders have been caught. They were from the west area and from at least one victim I know he has received most of his items back which is good news.
It has slowed down with the burglaries in the last month. There have been 2 that I am aware of which occurred in Shiloh Place and in Oakford Park. Both of these burglaries occurred during the day so once again, keep your eyes open for any suspicious behaviour. If you see anything that feels wrong, try and take as many details of the vehicle of persons as you can and either phone 111 or 477500 (the non emergency number).
It has been established that a staggering 80% of suspicious behaviour IS actually linked to criminal offences being committed so it is high on the priority list of the Police to investigate these complaints.

TIPS this month:

  1. Make sure that doors, windows and other entry and exit points from your house have good quality, effective catches and locks, deadlocks if possible. Get into the habit of always using these locks. (especially at the rear of your property if it cannot be seen from the road or by neighbours).
  2. Trim trees or remove shrubbery which might 'hide' a burglars activity.
  3. Mark valuable property with serial numbers or your Drivers Licence number (this number will always be linked to your name) so any recovered property will be able to linked back to you. Police often find property during search warrants which cannot be linked back to persons and whilst it is suspected that it is stolen property it is often left behind. Store the serial numbers in a safe place and add to it as you buy new property.

Stay safe

Community Constable September 09

Over the 3 weeks we have had 8 reported burglaries in Greenhithe which is a huge amount really!!
Upper Harbour Drive appears to be hardest hit... 3 on 1 day and 2 burglaries on another... The main items targeted were laptops and jewellery. Two other burglaries were committed out on the boat moorings outside of Rahui Rd and Marae Rd.
These burglaries were committed anytime after 27/08/09.. Depth sounders, nav lights, tools, fishing rods, life jackets are missing.
Anyone who saw anything suspicious please let me know. Please keep an eye out if you overlook the moorings?

Anyone who has any info on the destruction of several street signs on Greenhithe Rd please get it to me (anonymous is fine).
The damage done amounted to almost $4000.00!!!! That is going beyond a joke.

Tips of the month:
1. Do not hide your jewellery in your bedroom drawers!!!! This is where thieves go first...
2. Check your outside lights. Are the bulbs still working? And are they screwed in sufficiently?

Don't forget: you can always text me or email me with any concerns or information.

Community Constable March 2009

It has been pretty good in greenhithe over the last month. The main thing I would like to draw your attention to is the fact that we have had a few burglaries over the last 2 months and most of those burglaries have taken place during daylight hours.
So, once more I urge people to phone 111 or the NON-emergency number 477 5000 if that makes you feel more comfortable.
Lock up properly if you leave your house, even if you just pop down to the shops or a friend.

Youth are still causing a bit of trouble. If any under age kids are seen late at night don't hesitate to phone the non emergency number and we will try to have them returned home. Youth under 16 are not supposed to hang around in the dark on the streets or in the park. Especially after 10pm they should be at home!!! So parents, please make sure your children are either at a friends house and dropped off home or pick them up when it is time for them to get home.

I am back at the Greenhithe Firestation on Thursdays between 10am and 12noon. If anything occurrs during the day mon-fri I am pretty much available or not too far away so don't hesitate to call if anything is happening.

Take care,

My letter box in Tauhinu Road recently got pushed over. Has this been happening elsewhere in Greenhithe that you are aware? I have only recently moved to Greenhithe so just want to know what to expect as far as vandelism is concerned

Community Constable update January 09

During the months of December 08 and January 09 there have been a few reported burglaries and theft ex-cars. In one of the burglaries the light bulb got taken out of the floodlight outside. So please check that your floodlights are placed at a height that is not easily accessible.

Also we find that more garages are being targeted as they are often not alarmed and as people often leave their work phone and laptops in them please remove them as they are very inconvenient items to go missing...
Most of the thefts ex-cars are because the cars concerned were not actually locked so please lock your car, even if it is parked in your driveway and once more, DO NOT leave anything in the car.

Speeding is still a big issue with cars coming down Greenhithe Road and cars coming of the motorway... THE SPEEDLIMIT is 50km now.
A lot of car registrations that are being fed back to me are from residents in Greenhithe...There will be no warnings if caught!!
Kids are going back to school as well soon so think about the children.. Going at 70 or more will get you home barely a minute earlier but if you hit anyone, they barely have a chance of survival.. Think about how you would feel if it was your child being hit by a speeding driver.

And if there are any occasions in which you want to phone the police and advise them of something going on but you don't think it is warranted to phone 111 you can now phone 09-4775000 which is our Non Emergency Number, any time, 24 hrs a day...

I am still at the Firestation most Thursdays between 10am and 12noon and available for any reporting or visit.

Take care and stay safe

Hi Hermien
Just wondering if any other residents have reported having fruit trees stripped. 3 years in a row we have had our plum tree completely stripped of fruit even the fallen fruit. Not a major crime I know but invasion of privacy knowing someone is watching for when the fruit is perfect for picking and entering the property to steal. Maybe if other people have reported we could find out if there was a pattern.
We are in Isobel Road 51A ph 4139703 if you hear anything

Cheers

Community Constable - Sept/Oct

After my article last month I got an amazing amount of reports from people who had experienced break-ins in their cars. I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to report those incidents. Even if NOTHING is taken and you are not making an insurance claim (due to not having insurance for instance) please let me know. It appears we DO have a problem in the new area as well as around Rame Road and Marae Road.
I would like to get as many cars to the North Shore Policing Centre (Off Constellation Drive, Mairangi Bay) for fingerprinting especially if the weather has been good overnight. To organise the fingerprinting phone the main station 4886200 and ask for the SOCO (fingerprinting) department to make an appointment asap. Community Patrols and extra Police Patrols around the area can also be increased if we are made aware of it.

I know I am repeating myself but the message just does not seem to get through as to how  important reporting is. I often hear things way after they happen and often it is too late to take any good action.

With so many new houses in the new area and the problems we seem to have at the moment re the above we will try and set up some more neighbourhood watches. A public meeting will be held in the community hall in November and a date will be publicised in the next newsletter.
It will be a good to see a great turnout. Don't forget we have the summer holidays coming up and neighbours are your best security and help in regards to mail. etc.

Don't forget, I am at the Greenhithe Firestation most Thursdays from 10am-12noon to answer any questions or discuss your worries.

Keep safe
