Hi Everyone
Well the Whangateau trip is behind us now and here are a few words from the trip organiser Rob McMonagle.
Cheers Neil
Friday the 26th of February saw some 70 odd members [50 adults and 20 kids] make their way up to Whangateau Motor Camp
for our second camping weekend. this was a record turnout for a trip away.
After a couple of quiet ones, we all turned in early for a big one the next day.
Saturday morning greeted us with wind and showers. Manaia skippered by Al Haslam braved the elements and headed off first.
The rest of us hung around till about 9.00am when the wind dropped off and the sun came out .
Fishing was hard, with a 2m swell to contend with and a 20 knot south easter.
Weigh in was 4 o’clock with very few fish weighed in.As high tide was 7 o’clock some kids enjoyed some water sports, while the
rest enjoyed the open spaces. We had an awesome barbecue organised by the Read family[a big thank you to Greg for bringing along
the Caterpillar barbecue which was amazing}7 o’clock we had our prize giving, followed by a cruisy evening of socialising.
Sunday morning we were woken up by the camp manager, and advised to vacate the camping ground as their was a tsunami warning.
This put an end to our well planned breakfast cook-up, which was a shame as it had been a fantastic weekend.
All in all a great turnout ,good company and a few good stories around the barby, roll on Russell.
Happy fishing
Rob
Camp Mother

with a Snapper weighing around 4.5Kg. (will get exact weight and update later)

Hi Everyone
Last weekend saw the Motuihe Challenge and what a wonderful weekend it was. 40 plus members on 14 boats took part, fished all day Saturday
and then went for the weigh-in on the on Motuihe. The weather and sunset were superb, reminding me of why I came here to live, a feast was cooked on the barby before we all either camped or slept on our boats. The winning Snapper was about 7.9Kg caught by Gavin Smith closely followed by Matt and his 7.6Kg Snapper. Our ladies winner was Ali.
Hi Everyone,
Well Xmas is upon us and its holiday time again. The raffles are now over till February. The first event on the 2010 calendar
is the Motuihe challenge on the 9th /10th Jan. There are links above to both the 2010 calendar and the Motuihe challenge.
To wind up the year there is also a xmas news letter (click here) from our club Captain Don. That just leave me to wish everybody
a very happy holiday time, do plenty of fishing, stay safe on the water and see you all next year.
Hi Everyone,
Well another successful year draws to a close and it is time to start thinking about 2010.
The calendar for the year can be downloaded from the link above.
Please note there are two changes to the printed one circulated to members

Tairua 2009 The Trophy comes homes !!!
Hi Everyone,
Just returned from the Coromandel and what a great trip. It was really good to meet up with the Tairua fishing club for our annual fishing competition which they won last year. As usual they were great hosts and made us all feel very welcome. The weather was superb and the water like a milk pond. Many went out to the Aldermans while others fished around 'Shoe' and the coastline. No incidents on crossing the bar this year, having strayed to the right last year getting into rough water I stayed well left this year and got beached instead. Don had few issues with his outboard otherwise all went well. At the end of a great days fishing the weigh-in took place and this year we convincingly came out the victors.
We would like to thak the Tairua Shores Motel for another fabulous stay, they look after us so well. The Tairua fishing club for their hospitality and friendship. Sandy and Cheryl for organising it and all those who took part making it such a great visit.
The catch of the weekend has to be young Jayden with his monster Snapper. I dream about catching one half this size.
There was a rumour Mark Pennial caught a monster one as well but I am waiting for the photograph !!
Well done Jayden and keep it up. We will be back at Tairua next year 11th /12th Nov 2010, get it in your new 2010 diaries now!!
Jayden Johns with his 5.4Kg winning Snapper
That's it for now
Cheers
Neil

Hi everyone
Shelly beach was a great day trip with 13 boats attending. Even with the aid of a tractor to launch not every boat made it into the water as Kiwi Rob knows only to well!! though he got there eventuallly. A shotgun start from Ali saw us all powering off down the harbour anticipating a great days catch. The great catch did not quite materalize and the wind got up making it a little uncomfortable. Retrieving the boats was a challenge a very big thank you to those wading up to their armpits to help. A great barby was waiting on the beach as weigh-in took place and if the weigh master ever gives me the results I will publish them. Here are a few pictures and many more are on the club notice board in the Malthouse.

Hi Everyone,
Well the Turangi winter trip has come and gone and what a fabulous time we all had. I think all of us arrived thursday night, a real horrid wet day making the week end look a bit bleak.
Friaday morning some of us went to play golf while others visited the hot pools and Taupo. The rain soon took care of the golf and the bar was beckoning, those who attempted to fish came back with little success except for Mark who came back with the only fish.
Saturday was a complete contrast, the sun shone and the mountains and lake looked beautiful.
One group went off sking while Jacqui and I fished the lake with our charter pro Tim. And we caught rainbow trout !!!!
Saturday Evening was party time and prize giving.
The Bridge Fishing Lodge Turangi is a superb venue and well worth the trip. It would have been good if a few more members could have made the journey but those who did really enjoyed them selves. Many thanks to Don for organizing this event. I know a lot of hard work and time went into it. Many more pictures will be up in the Malthouse on the notice board.
Prizes went to
Jacqui Shaw heaviest ladies trout
Neil Curtis (me) heaviest mens trout
Mark Humphrys Second place trout.
Next Event is Shelly beach fishing for Gurnard, 9th August. Don has emailed details so check your inbox. Details can also be found on the notice board in the Malthouse.
Also please do not forget, Friday nights at the Malthouse fishing raffles.
See you all there
Cheers

Hi Everyone, here is a report from Don on the last club trip.
MALTHOUSE TEAM WIN AT FITZROY
Fishing Club Members Steve Wong-Kam, Gavin Smith and Don Haddon competed in the annual Fitzroy One Base Tournament at Great Barrier Island mid March.
Despite inclement weather with gale force SW Winds to 45 knots the team made it safely to The Barrier on day one. Fishing wide for marlin and tuna was pretty much impossible due to the weather for the first three days, especially on “Big Ghia, at 7.5 metres one of the smallest boats in the fleet. Most anglers chased snapper and kingfish in the lee of some of the smaller islands around the inside of The Barrier.
Targeting big kingfish on 2kg plus live kahawai baits, Team Big Ghia topped the leader board by Day Two with a 17.72kg fish to Gav, and a 21.30kg fish to Don. In between diving and feasting on crayfish and paua, plus the odd ale, day three saw Gav nail a 20.82kg kingie to lie second and third. Day Four, Gav had to fly home on a promise to take Lynn to see Jimmy Barnes, so Steve and Don took advantage of the more settled weather and went wide chasing marlin, Although four marlin were tagged, and three weighed for the tournament the lads had no luck here.
Saturday Nights final prize giving was a big night, with a sumptuous meal and merriment at The Club Bar and Restaurant. Team Big Ghia took the kingfish section 1st, 2nd and 3rd with a clean sweep and collected a prize pool of some $3000 worth marine electronics, etc, etc. Top Snapper was a 9.50kg beaut to Graham Judd from The Brownzy, heaviest Marlin was a 189kg Blue, heaviest Mahimahi 10.70kg and heaviest Kahawaii 3.50kg. No tuna were caught, but if they had a section for crayfish Wongy would have blitzed that one too!
The kingfish were smoked on return and enjoyed by many in the neighbourhood. A memorable four days at Great Barrier, Team Big Ghia will be back in 2010! A second Malthouse Club Team on “Twister” is also already making plans for next year.

Brownsbay Fishing Club triumph again!!!!
Hi everyone,
Well last weekend was the five grander fishing competition and what a grand occassion it was. Fishermen, fisherwomen and fisherchildren from 3 clubs all took part in a fishing marathon with their sights set on that top prize of $1000 for the largest snapper caught. The rules allowed competitors to fish anywhere around NZ, you just had to be back at the Malthouse for the weigh-in on Sunday at 1500. Some competitors travelled great distances, others stayed out on their boats all through the night determined to be in the money. In some locations the weather was challenging and in others the fish just did not want to play. I went with a group to the bay of islands and out on a charter. I lost more tackle in one day than I have in a whole year and not many fish to show for it. But it was a great occassion. Sunday afternoon at the Malthouse was a wonderful event and the weather was great. Allen and Kim of the Malthouse put on a fabulous buffet for us all plus live music in the evening and the party went on till late. Anway to the results:
The total amount of Snapper weighed in by the 3 clubs was:
Brownbay fishing Club 187.45Kg
Pats Garage fishing Club 150.3 Kg
Malthouse fishing Club 65.4Kg
The top ten prize winners were:
11.9Kg Brownbay Rhyl Saunders $1,000
9.84Kg Malthouse Grant Moxham $ 750
9.41Kg Brownbay Graeham Judd $500
9.38Kg Pats Garage Frank Reardon $450
9.00Kg Brownbay Warrick Howarth $400
8.26Kg Brownsbay James Brown $350
8.15Kg Brownsbay Cory Dykman $300
7.69Kg Pats Garage Kevin Langwell $250
7.38Kg Malthouse Carolyn McMonagle £200
7.19Kg Pats Garage Tony Wiles $150
Congragulations to those ten and appologies for any spelling errors.
The average weight for Snapper caught was 4.43Kg and the prize was closest to average
weight goes to Lenn Dunn of Brownsbay with a 4.37Kg fish. He won $400.
The prize for heaviest Trevally goes to young Caleb Brown of the Malthouse with a 2.2Kg Trevally.
Caleb won £250.00.
The competition trophy for the highest average weight of their top ten Snapper goes to Brownsbay with an average of 8.07Kg Pats garage were second at 6.5Kg and the Malthouse third at 5.3Kg.
I will post the complete spreadsheets of everybody's results shortly plus photo's and an updated leader board for the Malthouse. Time is a little tight at the moment and I wanted to get the result out.
Once again and big thank to all those who took part, all those who helped in the organization and to Allen and Kim of the Malthouse for their support and hospitality. Next yeay the competition is being hosted by Pats Garage and I know everybody is really looking forward to it. Any thing you want to say about the competition or have posted on this site feel free to email me at neil.curtis1@googlemail.com
Cheers for now

6th October 2008
Hi everyone,
Quite a bit to report back on this time. Firstly we had our AGM at the Malthouse on Sept 27th, thank you to all those of you who attended, around 40 in total. A new committee was elected in and the line up for this year is:
Rob McMonagle Club Captain
Don HAddon Vice Captain
Alison Lindsay Secretary
Jan McKain Treasurer
Steve Wong Kam honory Captain
Graham Maber Committee member
Mark Humphries Committee member
Grant Brown Committee member
Bary Hamlen Committee member
Neil Curtis Committee member
A big thank you to Mark Darwin and Andrew Kendall for their committee work last year. There was some spirited debate over the definition of family membership and what it should be and some changes proposed for next year. It was also agreed that in future years the prize giving should happen at the AGM and not at the Xmas party.
The Gulf harbour trip.
This finally took place on Sunday 28th Sept and 9 off us went out on Kiwi angler for a superb days fishing round the back of little Barrier. Many different species of fish were caught including Tarakihi, Trevally, snapper, John Dory, Porae, Blue Cod, Eals, Gurnard and more. Over a hundred fish in the bin so all in all a great day and congragulations to Ali who landed the biggiest Snapper.
By now all membership renewals should be in so if you havn't yet then get a move on. The five grander competition is almost with us so I hope you have got your strategies sorted out for catching plenty of large Snapper. The Tairua trip has proved to be very popular is now fully booked but there are camping facilities for others still wishing to come.
Tomorrow night is the first committee meeting of the new season and I will update after that.
Cheers Neil
PS: I bought a boat, a 5.5 metre Surtees workmate so looking forward to mush more fishing this Summer.
23rd September 2008
Hi everyone just a reminder that this Saturday 27th Sept is the clubs AGM which as always is held at the Malthouse kicking off at 2pm so get there in plenty of time. It would be good to see as many members as posible.
Cheers Neil
25th Aug 2008
Hi Everyone,
Sorry its been a couple of weeks since the last update but to be honest the weather has been crap and very little has gone on in the way of fishing. The Gulf harbour trip was again cancelled due to weather and no new date has yet been set. There are a couple of personal messages. Firstly one our most prestigious fisherman, Don has been seriously unwell and underwent surgery and I am sure everybody in the club will join me in wishing him well and hope to see him back on the water very soon. And secondly Ali would like to say a big thank you to the club and its members for the flowers and messages of condolence regarding the recent loss of her mother.
Jan has asked me to publicise the Tairua Fishing trip which is on the 15th November. Jan requires an RSVP by 12th September. Either email Jan at jmckain@gtak.co.nz or PH: 09-413-7103. Accomodation is at the Pacific Harbour Lodge with a Special of $139 per room for 2 people for the 2 nights. Jan is finding out about extra beds for those who may take kids. Jan also aske me to include the following regarding boats.
"In order to make the Trip a success we are hoping that those of you able to take your boats down and who have spare capacity will be kind enough to take additional people on your boats.
We would expect your additional passengers to contribute to your fuel costs.
When you confirm that you will be attending can you also please advise if you are bringing a boat and if you are able to take additional people."
The a link to the pdf for the trip is at the top of the webpage. I am off to the UK this Friday for a couple of weeks and will next update when I return. Oh yes and the $50 dollar bar tab was won by Barry on Friday night.
Cheers Neil
PS if you want to email me can you please use neil.curtis1@googlemail.com as my other address is stuffed up at the moment.
1st Aug 2008
Hi Everyone,
Well we are into August and the fish of the month is Tarakihi. I have not been notfied of any larger Gurnard than the one Grant caught at Shelly beach so I think its safe to say Grant is July's winner but I will get that confirmed at the commitee meeting on Tuesday. All commitee members please be at the Malthouse next Tuesday 5th Aug for 1930. This will the last meeting before the club AGM. At I write the Gulf harbour trip is still on for tomorrow but its going to be a last minute decision in the morning. If anybody has anything to contribute please let me know, below is an amusing email I received from our treasurer, thanks Jan!!
Cheers Neil
24th July 2008

21st July 2008
Hi Everyone,
It was good to see so many members at the Malthouse on Friday night. The $50 bar tab was won by the Thomson family who unfortunately were not there to claim it. Sunday was the Gurnard Guru and a great day was had by all. Below is a write up I have done, if any off you have stories or pictures to share please let me know.
Cheers Neil
The Gurnard Guru 2008
Timing of the Gurnard Guru is always difficult, getting a weekend when club members are free the weather is good and tide times correct is never going to be easy especially with the weather we have had so far this winter. Anyway we all decided upon yesterday Sunday 20th and Barry went up to Shelly beach on Saturday and from talking to locals it all looked good. Sunday morning 0730 I met Barry down at the shack and got absolutely drenched in the first deluge of the day. I was towing Barry’s boat up to Shelly beach with Che, Andrew Musgrave and Jonathan on board too. We got to Shelly beach and out on the water around 0900. The turn out was terrific, 8 boats with about 35 members all fishing. The water was reasonably calm and the sun started to shine. 5 boats went to the green marker and I think the others were over near the concrete bunker. We all got our lines out with plenty of lead on them because the current was really ripping through. For an hour there was very little action and then a few Kahawai started to appear. It started to blow up a bit and two big squalls followed down the land mass either side of us in the harbour. Then on our boat as high tide approached I caught the first Gurnard. Things picked up but it never really happened for us the way it had only 2 weeks previously when Barry and I brought in about 25 Gurnard between us. The water was really dirty and conditions not ideal. We all headed back in around 1300 and had a weigh-in in the car park. Some boats had been more successful but the total catch was only around 50 fish.
Despite the disappointing catch everybody agreed it had been a great day, a good turn out of members, lots of fun and camaraderie. Jonathan Musgrave caught his first ever Gurnard, something his father is yet to achieve!! The winner for the day though was Grant Henry with a Gurnard weighing exactly 1Kg. Don was second, 0.82Kg, Mark third 0.79Kg and Grant Brown fourth 0.78Kg. Having concluded the weigh-in, had a beer and a good chat it was time to get back to Greenhithe for the prize giving in the Malthouse at 1600. We all arrived back around 1500, the fish was taken to the Shack for filleting and the boats, cars and tackle all washed down. Showered and clean we all met up in the Malthouse. The Malthouse had very kindly agreed to cook the fish for us, we had around 100 fillets of Gurnard. It was deep fried in batter and absolutely delicious, accompanied with bowls of Chips. Speeches were made and prizes given, everybody agreed it had been a great day. I would like personally thank all those who put the hard work in to make happen, events like this don’t just happen on their own. I would also like to thank Allen and Kim of the Malthouse who always support our fishing club so generously and enthusiastically. I would like to remind everybody that gurnard is the July ‘fish of the month’. Grant Henry is currently in the lead with his 1Kg fish so you have about 10 days left to catch a bigger one to win the monthly $100 prize.
Finally do you have any good fish recipes? I thought for each fish of the month we would run with some recipes. Here is Danyella’s recipe for Gurnard which I can say is mouth watering having had supper with them the other week.
Thai Baked fish
Ingredients
5 large Silverbeet leaves
250 grams mushrooms
1 227g tin golden sun bean shoots (optional)
1 400g tin Samoa Coconut Cream
5 skinned and boned Gurnard fillets
1 Tbsp of Lee Kum Kee coconut curry sauce
Light sprinkle of Masterfoods Thai seasoning.
Method.
Wash silverbeet leaves cutting of excess stalks, then roughly chop up the leaves and layer over the bottom of a large oven proof dish. Spread over the sliced mushrooms.
Evenly add the contents of the tin of bean shoots. Put the tablespoon of Lee Kum Kee ready sauce into a jug, then add the cocoanut cream and stir together.
Layer the fish fillets over the vegetables in the ovenproof dish and pour the jug of curry mix evenly over the fillets. Cover the dish with tinfoil and bake in an heated oven at 180 degrees C for approximately 40 minutes or until cooked.
Serve in a bowl with a generous portion of steamed rice.

Mr Meowie takes a 10 day vacation......
For those of you who have not met Mr Moewie, Mr Meowie is Barry's cat and lives down at the shack. Now it is often said that a dog reflects the characherter of its master and I think the same is true of cats because Mr Meowie has a lot to say for himself (hence the name) and most of it is unintelligible gargage. Anyway on July 9th Mr Meowie mysteriously disappeared and naturally Barry was very upset and after a week had actually given up on ever seeing Mr Meowie again. You can imagine Barry's delight when on Saturday 19th July Barry received a phone call from a lady at Shelly Beach to say Mr Meowie had turned up at her home. It would appear that When Don, Barry Greg and I went to Shelly beach on the 9th Gurnard fishing Mr Meowie Stowed away on Don's boat and has been living it rough up there ever since. Anyway Barry rushed off to Shelly beach to be reunited with his pussy and I last saw them at the shack doing what they both do best, talking gibberish to each other.
15th July 2008,
Just to remind everybody about the Gurnard Guru coming up this Sunday at Shelly beach. Get there early and catch plenty of Gurnard, your allowed 20 if you just keep Gurnard. In addition the Friday night $50 bar tab at the Malthouse was won by yours truly and I had the headache Saturday morning to prove it. Remember you have to be at Malthouse Friday night to claim the prize otherwise it is lost. Finally a reminder about the Friday night meat raffles at the Malthouse between 1830 and 2000. We hold 7 raffles, 6 of them are $2 tickets with prizes of a beef, lamb or pork roast joint. The 7th raffle which we call the 'big brut' is a $5 ticket raffle and the prize is a big meat pack containing 3 roasting joints, 1 pork, 1 beef and 1 lamb.

10th July 2008,

It was decided at the meeting on Tuesday evening that the Gurnard guru will take place on Sunday July 20th weather permitting. There have been comments about making the web site more interesting so I am thinking about how it can be improved so any suggestions or ideas are most welcome. Let me know what you would like to see here. Its your club!

Gamefishing Season Wrap Up – The “Untold Chronicles”
Report from the Gannet
To misquote Steve “What awesome game fishing weather we’ve had”. For some of the boys, including Steve, Don & Gav, the big game fish event was the Fitzroy One Base Tournament held at Great Barrier in March. A couple of kingfish caught on Day 1 and reported earlier earned Steve and Don first and second overall respectively.
But the big brownie points in this comp are for marlin, blues if you can get them or a stripy will do. Day 2 saw the boys head out past the Needles to do battle with a beakie (along with 200 other anglers such was the weather). Ah, but the fishing gods were not kind. Despite brilliant boatsmanship, fantastic lures and five massive strikes (including one monster blue smashing in just behind the boat) the boys came back to Fitzroy gamefishless, but with plenty of stories.
Day 3 looked promising, same place but the weather was not so flash. Two early strikes and the odd tuna weren’t enough for your wily club captain Wongy so he headed to the cabin for a nana nap. It took far too long for Don & Gav who resorted to the old “bucket on the hook trick”. The port corner line was carefully wound in, a big bucket substituted for the lure, and dropped overboard.
The screaming of the ratchet nearly drowned out the boy’s urgent yell “WONGY. YOU’RE ON !!!!!!”. The man himself tore himself from his slumber and sprinted to the rod. Such was the constant power of the “fish” the mighty Wong couldn’t immediately get the rod from the holder, and when he did he was nearly ripped from the boat.
“DID YA SEE IT” yelled Steve, “BLOODY OATH” said the boys, nearly doubled over trying not to laugh out loud. “WHAT WAS IT” yelled Steve, now settling in for a long fight, already sweating profusely. “DUNNO. JUST PUMP HARD” urged the boys.
Fifteen minutes of incredible angling exertion follows before Steve finally sees something white about 200 metres behind the boat and declares “IT MUST BE FOUL HOOKED AND DEAD”. Don & Gav crack up and the ruse is over. Wongy has been stitched up big time.
Steve doesn’t get shitty for long and managed to land the only gamefish on Big Ghia for the day when Gav spots an old floating fish bin and steers the lures past. The resulting mahimahi caught on light line weighed a huge 1.95 kg, and tasted superb.
Note, the heaviest marlin overall was a spectacular blue of 235.8 kg, caught by Mike Berry onboard the Quest, skippered by Chad Haines of Greenhithe. It took several hours to land and they needed a couple of other boats to assist in dragging the beast on board. Two other marlins exceeding 200 kg were also caught in this awesome event.
On to next year. The Gannet.

A report from Steve Wong (Club Captain) on the Queens Birthday Weekend
What awesome fishing weather we’re having! The Queens Birthday 10Kg fishing competition was exceptional and held out of Sandspit yacht club. The 10Kg competition is a light tackle tournament using line of 10Kg or less. Gavin Smith, Steve Wong and Carl Arthur head out early from Sandspit on “Big Ghia” to Little Barrier. Fish were slow as it was getting on to low tide, a few small Snapper and some nice lively Kahawai. So it’s off to Great Barrier to try for a Kingi and have a dive. We choose to travel down the West side towards Whangaparapara as that is the destination to watch the final super 14 at the Lodge. The water is crystal clear this time of the year and the Cray’s were right in the shallows sunning themselves, we fished till dusk with a few more Snapper in the bin plus a few beers. Then the razor gang arrived ( Barracuda).
Time for Gavin to cook up one of his specials for dinner, Crayfish, Snapper, Prawns, Marlin Salami, Chillies and Coriander steamed with egg noodles, Yum!! (have to send that recipe to Derek the chef). As the morning dawned we were still snoring (to much of Carls good bourbon) “Oi you guys lets get some liveys, lets get going”. We go back to the same area as last night a point where there is a slight run in the tide and shallows plus rocks down to 50 feet on the sand.
Gav’s first bait is taken in a long steady run and started to show the ‘head turning’ fight of a big Snapper. With plenty of ribbing coaxing and advice from Carl and me Gav eased his big Snapper to the net. What a sight to see this magnificent fish, weight 7.55Kg, enough for 3rd place back at the prize giving along with 2 Kahawai prizes for 2.5Kg & 2.65Kg – Well Done. It was a great competition, a lovely meal provided and relaxing hot showers. Thanks to Brett Rathe from Assassin Charters and his team. We will definitely be back next year!!

Russell Fishing Trip 9th /10th/11th May 2008
Last weekend saw our fifth annual fishing trip to the bay of Islands this time staying in the picturesque town of Russell. During Wednesday Thursday and Friday 35 club members made the trek north in anticipation of the Saturday all day fishing epic. Weather reports were gloomy to say the least with a predicted 35 Knots for the Saturday. Still a little bit of bad weather was not going to dampen anybody’s enthusiasm. The club booked the entire Commodore’s Lodge with the over spill staying at the Hananui Lodge about 100m away.
The weekend coincided with Bay of Islands Country Rock Festival so Russell was humming with lots of Cowboys, Cowgirls and live bands in the pubs and hotels. Friday night everybody congregated at the Commodore’s lodge for a few drinks, discuss tactics and watch the rugby. People then dispersed to various places to eat, the majority to the Swordfish club.
Saturday morning kick off time was 0745 on the wharf. 6 all day charter boats had been booked, 5 fishing boats for the men and 1 Gin palace for the 8 women. The weather contrary to all predictions was superb. Around 3.30pm the first boat arrived back. The weigh in started and tales of lost and almost caught fish began. It was evident though that everybody had had a really good day and lots and lots of fish were caught. Only the largest fish were weighed in, 8 Kingfish, 16 Kahawai and 15 Snapper. Prize giving was at 7.30pm in the Swordfish club and prizes were awarded for 1st 2nd 3rd Snapper, 1st 2nd 3rd Kawawai and largest Kingfish. There was also a 1st 2nd 3rd kids prize for any species.

After the prize giving much partying took place and people danced well into the early hours. A big thank you must be said to all those who took it upon themselves to organise this trip and make it such a great success. If you have any stories or things you would like mentioned regarding the weekend please don’t hesitate to contact me. Also there were lots of cameras there so if you have any good pics they can be posted on this website (see photo gallary) or put a print on the fishing club notice board in the Malthouse.
