1.    In one night there were quite a few theft ex cars around the Dressage Lane area. The right procedure to follow if this were to happen to you is to phone the North Shore Policing Centre on 4775114 and make an appointment with SOCO (the fingerprint team) who will print your car whilst you can fill out the complaint at the counter. Please still notify me as I do want to know what is happening. It is very important to get your car printed (even if nothing much is taken from your car) as we do get fingerprint hits. The best prevention is of course to not have anything in your car that is attractive to thieves.

2.    There is an issue at the Upper Harbour Drive exit turning right onto Albany Highway with the traffic on Albany Highway not complying with the right turning arrow (to go onto Upper Harbour Drive) and driving straight, hereby blocking the right turning traffic coming of Upper Harbour Drive. This is leading to frustration and I have received many calls and emails about it. There will be an operation on this intersection over the next few weeks so hopefully the issue will ease.

3.    Many pieces of mail/packages were found to be opened around the Outlook Rd/Isobel/Oakford Park area. This happened on the 26th April and was reported before midday. If anyone saw anything, please contact me.

4.    I still have the Kawasaki Motorbike key with the key ring with RACHEL on it.

5.    Historically domestic incidents increase over winter as people are inside a lot more. If incidents happen and you hear it, please do not hesitate to report these incidents. In NZ most homocides are domestic related. The reporting can be done completely anonymously.

6.    There is an email address set up that we are trying to get as many people as possible to subscribe to. This email address will be used to send out any urgent news/alerts, etc. If your dog goes missing and many other things (except advertising) can be published on it. So far about 700 people have subscribed to it. There is still some work to be done but in the meantime I would urge every one of you to send an email to subscribe. One can subscribe by following the link on greenhithe.org.nz/newsletter.

7.    Last but not least. If one gets their jewellery valued at Gemlab, Gemlab actually marks the jewellery so in case of one losing an item and it gets handed in to Police, we can find the owners as Gemlab has the details.

Stay safe

IMPORTANT!!!!

BURGLARY RATE GOING THROUGH THE ROOF:

  • During the end of March and first week of April there were at least 5 reported burglaries in Greenhithe. The houses were on Rame Rd (2 in one afternoon)2 in Roland Rd (not on the same day), 1 in Greenhithe Rd. In all cases jewellery, laptops and cash were the main items taken. Entry was gained through the master bedroom in most cases, with windows/doors jemmied or even broken. It appears that many new houses do not have alarm sensors in the bedrooms, yet here is where most people are still keeping their jewellery and other valuables. Greenhithe is a wealthy area and by now the burglars probably have a taste for the area as their "loot" has been very worthwhile in most cases. So: PLEASE do not keep your jewellery in the bedroom (or cash) as yes, this is still the first area burglars go to. Go and get a safe (at a bank) if you don't use the jewellery or put it somewhere else where it is not going to be found within 5 minutes.
  • GEMLAB on Constellation Drive does valuations.. At least get it valued and photographed as at least Police can check with Goldbuyers and second hand shops whether your jewellery might have been bought up by them.
  • Get another sensor in your bedroom if you have not got one there, it will work as a deterrent.
  • Go to SNAP.ORG.NZ and register your serial numbers. Too few people register them and during search warrants we come across many stolen goods but end up having to give them back to the crims as we can't prove they have been stolen. On SNAP at least if your PC gets stolen or breaks down, you can always access the website to retrieve the information.
  • Back up photos, work etc on discs/memory sticks as in most burglaries mentioned above, the victims have lost photos, uni-work or other work of value.

POSSIBLE SUSPECTS IN ONE OF THE BURGLARIES:  At one house a black Audi was sighted, 2004-2007 model, male Maori, around 40 years old was in the drivers seat. He was with a European female, very thin, quite tall, black (prob dyed) hair shoulderlength, they even signed for a package which was being delivered to the address. If anyone has seen anything please let Police know. It does not mean that they will still be using this vehicle but it is a possibility.

KEYS FOUND: keys have been spotted on the Tauhinu Rd overbridge. It has a tag with RACHEL on it. Give me a ring if they are yours?

Community Constable March 2012

I have been told there have been at least 2 incidents in Greenhithe  over the last few weeks whereby children have been asked directions to Wainoni Park and the Dairy and the kids have been invited into the car. The kids in question apparently did not get in the car which is great. Not so great is that as far as I am aware it has not been reported to Police. Anyone who has more information in relation to these incidents are advised to report it to myself or any Police Station. Questions are: What type of car/colour/2 or 4 door/tidy or untidy car/ what did the person look like : race/build/hair colour and  curly or straight/facial hair/eyecolour/how did they speak (accent or not?) and what did they exactly say?

The give way rules are changing as of 5am on 25 March 2012. The NZTA website includes a video and a quiz so one can test themselves on their knowledge. The website to go to is www.giveway.govt.nz.

The best numbers for you to ring - a) immediate serious concern about something 111 b)Unsure if it is dodgy, but it feels like it is, but Police should know phone 4775000. I would still appreciate being told about it as well. I know I seem to keep on hammering on about it but it still happens on a daily basis that I have messages left on my answerphone in relation to incidents that should have been directed to either 4775000 or 111 at the time it occurred.

Don't forget it is  GET TO KNOW YOUR NEIGHBOURHOOD month.  I know I have put this in last month but just a reminde. As you might have noticed, a lot of neighbourhood support signs are being removed from streets. This is happening to the streets that have NO neighbourhood support logged. As in March there is the "Get to know your street" campaign, run by the Greenhithe Community Trust, this might be a wonderful opportunity to start one up (again). More details in regards to this campaign can be found in this issue of the newsletter. If one is interested in setting up a group, please work out if you want to be a street coordinator and take as many names/addresses/phone numbers/emails down to make the actual set up process easier. If you want more information please don't hesitate to contact me or John Stewart at admin@neighbourhood.org.nz.

Found keys: On the 26th of Feb a set of car keys were found on the cnr of Rame and Almond Grove. Please phone me if these might have been yours.

Community Constable December 2011

Let me start off with a few items that were handed in to me during the last month.

Found/lost Property:

1. A book which came flying off a the roof of a car around the end of Greenhithe Rd/Tauhinu Rd area in a   Borders bag.

2. A pair of Ray Ban sunglasses

3. A bunch of 3 keys , 1 being a red key.

Give me a call/email if any of these items might be yours.

As from last week details of outstanding stolen vehicles are made available to the public from the Stolen Vehicles page on the Police website. Visitors to this site can :

·         Query an individual registration number (relevant to members of the public wanting to check suspicious vehicles);

This page will have benefits of potentially higher rates of stolen vehicle recovery and increased apprehension of offenders.

Pedestrian Crossing at Greenhithe Primary:

I have also been asked to remind everybody that the pedestrian crossing on Greenhithe Rd opposite the Greenhithe Primary School is a pedestrian crossing 24 hours a day  as there are quite a few problems with cars driving straight through the crossing when it is not being manned by the school volunteers.

Be vigilant..There have been a few burglaries (mainly around Upper Harbour Drive again) and Christmas is approaching which often shows an increase in these type of incidents. Do not hesitate to phone 111 if cars drive onto your driveway and the occupants appear suspicous.

HOST RESPONSIBILITY!!!

If you are having a party it is your responsibility that the party goers do not spill out onto the street causing havoc. A party a few weeks ago was (a not so good) example of a group of people spilling into Greenhithe, disturbing the peace (3 people arrested for this), kicking in postboxes and ripping out trees in Wainoni Park. As no one saw anyone in particular doing any of these acts, no one was arrested for the latter issues..

Community Constable August 2011

Hi there

This month has seen Greenhithe having a few burglaries on Tauhinu Rd in which jewellery and other goods were taken. In one of the burglaries the burglars were disturbed by the alarm but still managed to take quite a bit due to the delay in the alarm. The victims did have a gate at their house which was not closed/locked. Had the gate been locked this might have prevented them from choosing the house. So for all of you that do have a gate and you are not at home, use it and lock it!!

A fairly new initiative is being launched on the Shore this month. It is called select a dna and for more information you can go to the website  www.selectadna.co.nz . So called "DNA kits" are being sold in which items of value (incl items of sentimental value) can be marked with their own specific "dna". This "dna" kit is enough to mark approximately 100 items like computers, tv's, etc and the markings cannot be seen with the naked eye. It is almost impossible to remove it without damaging the items. The items are marked with a dna specific to your goods and will be registered as such in the database. Together with the award-winning SNAP initiative (where one can register their items' serial numbers on a website for free and for easy access), the initiative will make it a lot harder to on-sell stolen goods and they will be easily recognisable if come across during search warrants, checks done on second hand stores, etc. The kits are approximately $100 and the signage provided with the kits will tell any burglar that your items are marked which should deter them from wanting to enter your property. The initiative has strong Police support and many businesses and schools on the North Shore will be introduced to it over the next few weeks.

If you have any query or information about any crimes, please don't hesitate to contact me or if you want to stay anonymous, you can give information to CRIMESTOPPERS on 0800-555 111.

I am still at the Greenhithe Firestation on Thursdays between 10.00 and 12.00 noon.

Community Constable July 2011

I have had several complaints of garden ornaments and pots that have been stolen of porches and gardens. Some of these pots (like the Morris & James brand) are very expensive. The areas these pots have been stolen from have been mainly quiet cul de sacs, the retirement village and Rame Road. Please let me know if you have seen anything suspicious. Some of these pots/ornaments were stolen Saturday 25th June- Sunday 26th June and some on Tuesday 28th June. As a lot of these items are really heavy and at least 2 offenders are suspected to be involved.

If you are the owner of such nice pots:

  • Take a photograph
  • Mark the item so you can easily identify it
  • Keep an eye on cars "cruising" around slowly in streets and please take numberplates and dial 111 if they look suspicious.

If you have had an occurrence like this, please email me with all your details, details of the pots/ornaments, value of same and attach photo's if you can.

Other occurrences:

  1. Some really heavy furniture (chairs) was taken from the rear of a property that still had a for sale sign in front of it. The table was obviously too heavy as it was left behind. This occurred in the Te Wharau area. Any info?
  2. There have been some incidents after open homes lately. In one incident a camera and a Chinese dragon statue from the garden were stolen after an open home and in another incident keys to the house were stolen and the property was burgled the day after. I am not saying you should not have any open homes but I do believe someone should be there to keep a very close eye on visitors/car rego's and take good details of people visiting. Also keep valuable stuff (and keys!!!) absolutely locked away or take it away from the premises. An open home is a perfect opportunity for any possible burglar to check it all out.
  3. Burglaries are on the increase on Upper Harbour Drive. So anyone who lives there, please keep an eye open, close gates if you have them, close all windows, turn alarms on if you have one and have neighbours keep an eye out.

Any information on criminal activity but you want to stay absolutely anonymous? Crimestoppers can be contacted 24/7 on 0800 555 111.

Neighbourhood support has a very interesting website with lots of information about what is going on and prevention. The website is http://www.ns.org.nz/

Over the last month we have had 2 burglaries, one on Greenhithe Road and one on Upper Harbour Drive. In one of them a lot of jewelly got taken, expensive liquor (Camus cognacs) and a safe was removed from the house as it was not bolted down. It was a heavy safe and no one obviously thought it would be taken but it did nevertheless. So, if you do have a safe, make sure it is bolted down securely.

Quite a few incidents of boyracer activity have come to my attention due to complaints. I do believe I know who the culprit in this case was and he has been dealt with. However, this car managed to go around Greenhithe on quite a few nights and almost side swiped a person just walking home on the pavement whilst drifting around the corner!!! So, what I am trying to say is, please dial 111 when you hear these incidents.. I realise that often the offending cars are gone by the time we get there, but we (Police) might also be in the neighbourhood and able to respond quickly. Offenders of boyracing will have their car impounded, arrested and disqualified from driving for various amounts of time if convicted.

I still notice that suspicious behaviour is not reported to 111 either. If you see someone who appears to be casing out houses do not hesitate to call 111. Get as many details as you possibly can and get on the phone. If the people are in a car, get the rego. Many burglars get caught by citizens dialling 111 to report something suspicious and response to these calls are high on our priority list.

If you have a neighbourhood support sign on your street and there is no registered updated neighbourhood support group, it may be time to update your group. There are plans to remove all neighbourhood support signs where there is no active group. If you want to update your group or start a new one please contact the neighbourhood support office at North Shore Policing Centre via email on admin@neighbourhood.org.nz or phone 4775320 and speak to John Stewart.

Any information re criminal behaviour/drug dealing? If you want to give that information anonymously please phone0800 555 111CRIME STOPPERS.

Cheers and take care

1. KIDS BEING PICKED UP BY A STRANGER

I had an incident reported to me of 2 children being picked up on Greenhithe Road whilst walking back home from school by a male in a car. The male was well dressed, in his 40's, lives in Greenhithe apparently as he came to the front door of the house where the children live and introduced himself. It was not raining and there was no other reason why these kids should have been picked up. PLEASE talk to your kids about getting in the car with strangers/people they know.. The kids involved have had the talk about going with strangers, yet did not think twice about getting in a car with a stranger!!!!! If this stranger that picked up the kids was you please give me a call. If this has happened to your kids also please let me know.

2. PETROL THEFTS FROM BOATS

I have been told of at least 2 thefts of petrol tote's from boats that were parked in peoples driveways/properties. I would advise you to not leave them on the boats as a prevention matter and if this has happened to you please report it to Police, whether or not it is an insurance matter.

I have also heard (but none of this has been reported to me) that thefts have occurred from boats moored on the water. Please report these to Police asap as we will try to fingerprint your boats.

3. SNAP.ORG.NZ

www.snap.org.nz

This is a police endorsed free initiative, the website is a secure site where people upload their serial numbers of their property before they get burgled.

The idea is that if you are burgled, you have a complete list of your property to send the police.  You may wish to log on now and try it yourself .

People can print out stickers to put on their property to show they have uploaded their property details., eg snap.org.nz

4. SUSPICIOUS BEHAVIOUR

I still get calls at night about suspicous behaviour which is all good as I do want to know, but if I do not answer the phone please phone 111 as well.

Take care,
