Community Constable July 2011

I have had several complaints of garden ornaments and pots that have been stolen of porches and gardens. Some of these pots (like the Morris & James brand) are very expensive. The areas these pots have been stolen from have been mainly quiet cul de sacs, the retirement village and Rame Road. Please let me know if you have seen anything suspicious. Some of these pots/ornaments were stolen Saturday 25th June- Sunday 26th June and some on Tuesday 28th June. As a lot of these items are really heavy and at least 2 offenders are suspected to be involved.

If you are the owner of such nice pots:

  • Take a photograph
  • Mark the item so you can easily identify it
  • Keep an eye on cars "cruising" around slowly in streets and please take numberplates and dial 111 if they look suspicious.

If you have had an occurrence like this, please email me with all your details, details of the pots/ornaments, value of same and attach photo's if you can.

Other occurrences:

  1. Some really heavy furniture (chairs) was taken from the rear of a property that still had a for sale sign in front of it. The table was obviously too heavy as it was left behind. This occurred in the Te Wharau area. Any info?
  2. There have been some incidents after open homes lately. In one incident a camera and a Chinese dragon statue from the garden were stolen after an open home and in another incident keys to the house were stolen and the property was burgled the day after. I am not saying you should not have any open homes but I do believe someone should be there to keep a very close eye on visitors/car rego's and take good details of people visiting. Also keep valuable stuff (and keys!!!) absolutely locked away or take it away from the premises. An open home is a perfect opportunity for any possible burglar to check it all out.
  3. Burglaries are on the increase on Upper Harbour Drive. So anyone who lives there, please keep an eye open, close gates if you have them, close all windows, turn alarms on if you have one and have neighbours keep an eye out.

Any information on criminal activity but you want to stay absolutely anonymous? Crimestoppers can be contacted 24/7 on 0800 555 111.

Neighbourhood support has a very interesting website with lots of information about what is going on and prevention. The website is http://www.ns.org.nz/

Take care
