Community Constable June 2011

Over the last month we have had 2 burglaries, one on Greenhithe Road and one on Upper Harbour Drive. In one of them a lot of jewelly got taken, expensive liquor (Camus cognacs) and a safe was removed from the house as it was not bolted down. It was a heavy safe and no one obviously thought it would be taken but it did nevertheless. So, if you do have a safe, make sure it is bolted down securely.

Quite a few incidents of boyracer activity have come to my attention due to complaints. I do believe I know who the culprit in this case was and he has been dealt with. However, this car managed to go around Greenhithe on quite a few nights and almost side swiped a person just walking home on the pavement whilst drifting around the corner!!! So, what I am trying to say is, please dial 111 when you hear these incidents.. I realise that often the offending cars are gone by the time we get there, but we (Police) might also be in the neighbourhood and able to respond quickly. Offenders of boyracing will have their car impounded, arrested and disqualified from driving for various amounts of time if convicted.

I still notice that suspicious behaviour is not reported to 111 either. If you see someone who appears to be casing out houses do not hesitate to call 111. Get as many details as you possibly can and get on the phone. If the people are in a car, get the rego. Many burglars get caught by citizens dialling 111 to report something suspicious and response to these calls are high on our priority list.

If you have a neighbourhood support sign on your street and there is no registered updated neighbourhood support group, it may be time to update your group. There are plans to remove all neighbourhood support signs where there is no active group. If you want to update your group or start a new one please contact the neighbourhood support office at North Shore Policing Centre via email on admin@neighbourhood.org.nz or phone 4775320 and speak to John Stewart.

Any information re criminal behaviour/drug dealing? If you want to give that information anonymously please phone0800 555 111CRIME STOPPERS.

Cheers and take care
