Greenhithe Community News
News from the Association
We are back in full swing again after the summer hiatus. Projects underway include installing park benches around Greenhithe. We anticipate will be opportunities to dedicate a bench. After a previous rev, our thanks to North Shore City Council for smoothing the way for this project.
We now have 108 members which is not bad considering there are no contentious issues, so thanks to all who have signed up.
Please continue to bring to our attention any issues you may have in the community. We value the input.
Council Activity
What did you think about the picnics and the Shore Sounds event in Collins Park? Do you want these to continue? Please give an opinion by replying to this email.
Have you seen the transformation of Wainoni Park? It is looking great, so well done to the Council. With some guidance to the Parks and Gardens people we can direct their expenditure so that Greenhithe is the lifestyle place we were after when we moved here. There are plenty of reserves and walks already, and wouldn’t it be nice if we could get them linked together? Again, give us your ideas and opinions.
Rates Increases
As a Ratepayers Association, part of our duty is to monitor Council expenditure and object as appropriate. You may have seen recently that the proposed rate increase is 8.9%. Obviously this is tough on everyone--particularly those on fixed incomes--so we will be going through the proposals in depth.
We can object in general terms, but that serves little point. The answer to the questions put to Council are always: “So, what should we not do or spend less on?” It is this question that you as a resident would need to have an opinion on if you object to rates increases. As a committee, we discuss this often enough and invariably it leads to no firm conclusion, but a resolve to have as much spent on our community as we can get.
If you have any firms ideas on how best to direct council spending, please let us know.
How To Improve This Mailing List
This mailing list is the best way we can think of to reach as many residents as possible. One real suggestion is to distribute civil defence information (eg bird flu information), and it’s also useful to advertise upcoming events, etc. So please encourage your friends and neighbours to subscribe. They can click on this link when they receive it.
The Web Site
The Greenhithe Web Portal is a service for the community. Use if free for clubs, societies or interest groups. Link to your business or include some content about your business.
Tell me if there are features or articles you’d like to see (or to write some articles yourself).
