Margaret MILES

Independent

I am a Justice of the Peace, a current Councillor (having now served four terms) and have been Chairperson of the Community Services and Parks Committee for the last 10 years.

I have led the successful purchase of parkland throughout the city and will continue to strive to secure more parkland in the fast growing Northern Ward including Long Bay.

I have supported funding to continue the upgrade of the city sewer and stormwater systems to provide clean beaches; will encourage solutions to resolve traffic gridlock across the Auckland region and support free access for all ages to city libraries and will monitor the needs at Albany and East Coast Bays Libraries.

I have been a North Shore resident for 32 years.

I am married to Wayne and have three adult children.

I am delighted to have two grandsons, one 10 month old who lives in Scotland and an 11 week old kiwi grandson living in North Shore City.  I have had extensive community involvement: Plunket, homecare for elderly, pony club, badminton, squash and cricket. I worked for 13 years as a physiotherapist in a retirement village. I was a foundation board member of the E-Centre at Massey University.  I am a trustee on Project K trust for youth.

I am committed to ensuring North Shore is a safe prosperous city for present and future generations.

I have attended the Greenhithe Residents and Ratepayers monthly committee meetings since becoming a councillor in 1995 and have found the feedback extremely helpful in enabling me to represent the Greenhithe community.

I am totally opposed to any commercial airport at Whenuapai and have consistently voted against commercial activities during my four terms as a Councillor and also voted against the council joining the airport company.
