Calling All North Shore Residents – Learn How To Compost For Free
Autumn has arrived and it’s time to rake up those fallen leaves and remove old plants from your garden. It’s also the perfect time to start composting, and you can do it for free thanks to the North Shore City Council.
From next week, North Shore residents can learn how to compost their organic waste and help to save nearly 50 percent of their rubbish going to landfill through the Council’s free composting workshops.
The workshops teach the steps to successful composting, worm farming and the Bokashi system. Each workshop runs for three hours and includes practical instructions on how to make compost, what to put in a compost system and what to leave out, top tips for maintaining the best compost, worm composting and the popular Japanese Bokashi fermentation system.
Previous workshops have been extremely popular and very successful in helping to reduce the amount of waste to landfill from across the North Shore.
Many North Shore residents are now composting their food and garden waste thanks to the advice and support they’ve received through the free Council workshops.
By keeping compostable material out of our rubbish bags, we are diverting it from landfill and putting it to work on our gardens to add richness to soil and improve plant growth and health.
