Community Planting Day Sunday 31 July

Te Wharau Reserve, Te Wharau Drive Greenhithe

Auckland Council’s season of community planting days runs from May to September each year, with the aim of improving our city’s parks and natural environment.

Last year, volunteers planted more than 15,000 native plants in reserves around the city - and we’d love you to be part of this year’s effort.

If you’d like to get involved, come along choose from the locations below:

All planting days are from 10am-12noon.

  • Sunday 31 July - Te Wharau Reserve, Te Wharau Drive, Greenhithe
  • Sunday 21 August - Chelsea Estate Heritage Park, Colonial Road, Birkenhead
  • Sunday 4 September - Browns Bay Creek, Browns Bay Road, Browns Bay

For wet weather cancellations, please listen to Newstalk ZB.

What to bring?

Please bring a clean spade if you have one and wear suitable clean sturdy footwear.
Please note: we would appreciate if you could help us to protect the native plants such as Kauri by ensuring your spade and footwear are clean.

A sausage sizzle and drinks will be provided at the end.

Please remember to be safe

  • slip on some sturdy shoes, boots or footwear that covers the entire foot
  • slap on a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen if it’s a sunny day
  • wrap up warmly if it’s cold, and bring a raincoat
  • supervise children around the site and water areas
  • watch your step on uneven ground and take care when handling plants (especially near the eyes)
  • bring some gloves if you like to keep your hands clean.
