The account was overdue, as per todays report in the Herald.. Also, they must have been regularly overdue as power is not cut off immediately for a once off overdue bill.. I am with Mercury and forgot to pay my bill once, they send out a reminder on the following statement, and if that is not paid, they then ring you (automated phone call), then send another letter threatening it to be cut off.  The family had plenty of time to pay it, and I would have thought if they had equipment necessary for health, that this would be a priority bill.. Funny how a family member managed to pay it the following day (why had they not stepped in to help before this?!).. Sorry, but Mercury is NOT responsible for this incident; it is very unfortunate, but the family MUST take responsibility.  Why was help not sought when the power was cut at 11am?? The ambulance was not called until 1:30 (when she passed out).. They had also had an offer from a neighbour for help, so could have run a lead over to their place while they sorted their outstanding bill.. I am with Mercury and shall continue to stay with them.
