Why don't retail businesses survive in Greenhithe?
We've had a terrible run in recent years, especially in the seemingly doomed ex Collins House location. Can greenhithe actually sustain more than one successful cafe/restuarant (which would be the Malthouse for now)? Will a chemist survive, dutch place, turkish restaurant, etc etc.
Re: Why don't retail businesses survive in Greenhithe?
Anything in Greenhithe HAS to rely on Greenhithians; there is no through traffic like other areas... Collins House was great, until it became not 'Collins House'.. It's about time it went back to a fancy restaurant (that had a fantastic name for itself) and called Collins House again.. I wouldn't call the Malthouse a cafe at all, nor a restaurant really.. It's good for a pub meal, and an 'eat out' but certainly not fine dining.. I'm not sure about the chemist; I for one am MORE than happy with our local chemist (Paul - Care Chemist) already, especially the efficient, friendly and fast delivery.. Business' in Greenhithe have to realise that the most important thing around here is word of mouth.. If they aren't top notch, then word will get around, and like I said above, there isn't the 'through traffic' to keep them going (they are purely relying on the locals)....

Also, cos its a small community people tend to chat to the locals, which isn't a bad thing, but means financially there are less people, spending.
