BRING BACK THE AIR FORCE
From what I understand the majority of the Greenhithe residences oppose the move to establish a commercial airport and we already have to put up with more noise and pollution from the existing aircraft than would be acceptable in most developed countries. It surprises me that the people charged with protecting our environment don’t seemed concerned with the health hazard for those North Shore residents that live in the flight path of the airfield if the airport goes ahead.
Re: BRING BACK THE AIR FORCE
I too, would like to know where you have got your statistics from.. Funnily enough, the 'majority' of people I talk to are in agreement to having a commercial airport at Whenuapai. You state 'we already have to put up with more noise and pollution from the existing aircraft'; can I ask why you would purchase a house in Greenhithe, under an already existing flight path?! (I'm presuming here of course that you have purchased your house AFTER the airbase was established).. For your information, prior to the last council elections, the chairperson made it quite clear they were 'pro airport' at whenuapai. Also, WAAG did a mail out advising of ALL councilors who were running who supported it.. I thought this was brilliant as otherwise I would have had no idea who supported it. Made my choice easy to vote for all who supported (funny, quite a few of them got in too...)

There is a public consultation process. When the Air Force did their survey, 75% of submissions opposed a commercial airport, with a much greater proportion against from Greenhithe. My understanding is that 97% of submissions opposed WCC's recent plan change process (I think you can call that a majority).
This is how the democratic process works; the local Ratepayers Assoc asks all residents to make submissions and makes very sure that both sides of the coin are represented. So if people don't make submissions when asked, they will suffer in silence.
