Teen Park
At the most recent Ratepayers Assoc meeting,we agreed that a
skatepark (or should it be teen park???) subcommittee be established. If anyone is interested in being
part of this working group to fully research the subject (pros, cons,
location, funding, experience elsewhere, etc) then please let me know
(info@greenhithe.org.nz).
Other subcommittees are:
- Pre-school education (to get more kindy space)
- Whenuapai (to oppose the airport)
- Village plan (to promote a village plan and respond to planning submissions)
- Community Hall (to manage the hall)
A subcommittee to oppose toll roads was abandoned with a successful result.

What a disgraceful attitude being displayed by so many "anonymous" residents regarding our local teenagers! Any other section of our community can rely on support from their neighbours when requesting facilities to enhance their lifestyle. Our village caters to many different sports and recreational interests, our smaller children, adults and senior citizens, walkers, dog owners even people just wanting to sit somewhere( bench seats ).What about the many 'good' 12-16yr olds? Why let the few trouble-makers ruin things for them? A teen park catering for a range of activities ie one-on-one basketball, handball, skateboarding, bmx would be an asset to our community and send the message to our teens that they are valued and respected members of our community worthy of the same support as everyone else.
We already have one of these (the school) and nobody uses it. Sure, it's not the full thing but who's to say the local kids would get of their fat arses any more after building a white elephant? I'm sure the Massey boiz would like it though. They have cars and better drugs than our kids.
