Check your belongings this morning - there were a couple out and about at 4am this morning - one in a waiting car, the other on foot going into people's gardens (school area). Next time I'll take my golf club outside with me - and to hell with the consequences!-

I very much doubt it is 'the local teens' out and about at 4am attempting to steal from/trespass on peoples properties. There has, for a few years now, been cases of 'outsiders' (esp. from birkdale & Sth Auck areas) coming into Greenhithe & committing these crimes. Any suspicious behaviour should be immediately reported to 111 to be dealt with in the appropriate manner. Should you attempt to approach these peoples yourselves (even armed with a golf club!!) I suspect you will be the one who comes off worse for wear.-

Give me a call next time. A golf club and a baseball bat or 2 should do the trick!-

Well, even if it is out side trash coming in to Greenhithe sure call the local police but I think also show we are on the watch and look out to protect our and your property..

What do folk think about traffic calming measures in the village (e.g. judder bars or chicanes)? I guess that there is a big rigmarole to go through, but do we want to start that process? I hate the thought of these boy/girl-racers mowing down our children.-

I am in Oakford Park area and every now and then there are souped up noisy cars going very fast around blind corners. There are a few dirt bikes as well that go very fast. They do this at late nights too.
There are kids who play with fireworks near the reserves and the little timber bridge.
Further during my week off I noticed a few school kids having a close call near the corner of Oakford Park Rd after the stone bridge, as the walking path stops at the corner on one side of the road and starts on the other side and kids have to cross and cannot see on coming traffic. People who use this road tot cross to the school or go elsewhere, come quite fast. MARK MY WORDS, there is a tragedy wai ting to happen.
I have asked the council to be contracted via our bodycorp but they have not been responsive. At least a sign needs to go on and maybe some traffic slowing devices.
Maybe if I can get support form the wider community and the xchool, it may be better responded to.
Cheers

The Ratepayers Assoc were fortunate to receive a presentation by a NSCC traffic engineer who outlined the 'models' for roading in Greenhithe. We were impressed. One item I took away from it is that chicanes, judder bars etc are typically a no-no, but there are measures that naturally slow traffic down. Roland Rd has been done in the 'wrong' way, ie it feels like a racetrack. Instead, the more appropriate model has strong vertical lines that give the 'feeling' of narrowness, without necessarily being narrow (causing other safety problems). Have you ever noticed that you naturally slow down when going through Fitzgerald Glade on the way to Rotorua? So the preferred roading model is more like Almond Grove and Kingfisher with islands and plantings than Roland Rd with its race-track features.
I'll say for the record that I am always opposed to roadsigns and judderbars in favour of community action (give people a talking to about their speed if you see them pull over at the dairy) and sound engineering.
I would like to post the presentation online but I don't have an electronic copy yet.

I think this would be an excellent idea. My son has to cross Greenhithe Rd. at 7.15am to catch his school bus and people of all ages are driving far too fast, considering the amount of school children about.

Personally, I'm sick to death of all the gang related talk here and around Greenhithe, the increasing problems with person’s property and increasing hoons racing around the roads. I don't understand what is wrong with some of the parents these days, if it was me doing these sorts of things I would have been the receiver of a few good seat warming’s...!!!
We went for dinner at the local a few weeks ago, to find tagging on the back window of the car in the mist. I mean how said is that.... (DO THESE KIDS NEED MORE CRAYONS AND COLOURING BOOKS.?)
Recently we had a spate of vandal actions in our street ranging from ripping off lights, smashing letter boxes.. etc... (GROW UP BABIES, SMASH YOUR OWN TOYS)
Also, I don't believe it is "Dam old people trying to stop our fun.. blah blah.." We are not trying to stop sensible good safe fun, but if these Young Persons would like to go out, get a job and get a large mortgage then they too will soon get sick of hearing this cr@p, paying to fix vandal actions..
Probably the best approach is eye for an eye.. they trash our bus stops, mess up our schools, wreck our parks, vandal our personal property.. So... let’s smash up there property, cars and if there parents don’t think they should do anything about it.. then send them a bill (Don’t pay, give it to Bay Corp).
On another note, perhaps a curfew with patrols from a security company may be a solution..? I mean although the Police do a good job once they can catch these $%^#$!@ but the problem is they can’t be everywhere at once and Auckland Northshore is a very big place for the Guys / Gals in the force.
And even perhaps for under 25 drivers out after curfew without a valid reason, fines or car impounded...
Best to shut these kinds of problems down now before it goes to far and someone is hurt or even worse...!!!-

I live on Greenhithe road and yes some of those speeding are young but the majority are the middle age, the speed limit is 30km/hr through the road works and then 50km/hr, how many of you can honestly say that you slow to 30km/hr at the road works sign and stick to 50km/hr through the village. Speeding is NOT isolated to the young Hoons!-

Yes, I would have to agree there.. speeding is a big problem for all age groups probably being to blame. Placing speed humps could a good answer, but it does not stop the hoons doing donuts at the botton of Kyle Road (the old way out of Greenhithe before they reopened Greenhithe Road).
Best thing I think is just to start reporting cars that you see speeding and perhaps the local boys / gals in blue may start setting up speed traps etc..

i particularly dislike the hoons that hang around the bust stop smoking thier joints. young albany junior kids seem to be getting to friendly with a certain J***** B********. et al. and that is not something to be encouraged. They are responsible for crashing the street party and a lot of the vandalism thats going on around Greenhithe I'm quite sure. It needs to stop. -

I disagree that Trafic calming measures should not be used In fact I think that Greenhithe Rd needs them.
I witnessed a car accellerate from the roundabout past the school down the hill. It lost control arround the corner by Sunnyview, spun, mounted the curb and stop against a retaining wall on the path, on a hot dry day.
This was at 2:55 on a school day. 10 minuites later the school kids were walking round it!
Imagine if he had been just 10 minuites later.
I doubt any prettying up of the road will ever happen there and only a physical deterrant that might break the car is going to slow people down.

Okay this website is becoming a major attraction. Why? Because it is so amusing that a suburb has it's own website. It is so amusing that people in this community have nothing better to do than have a big complain on a discussion board. It is so amusing that I am a student & I have a better vocabulary than some of the adults that talk on here. It is so utterly amusing that people are pathetic enough to complain on a website.
Come on, get a grip on reality. No one is perfect & by complaining about certain people & what they do is seriously not going to solve anything. It is just going to aggravate people & alienate them. This community is too tight-knit & alot of people tend to get in each others business. Yes there are problems but there are problems wherever you go. Take Ethiopia for example.
No age group is perfect. Wherever you decide to live, there will always be problems surrounding you. I tend to ignore whatever is going on & concentrate on my life, getting a good education, building a career & living abroad. So not all of the youth are bad okay. Some people just need to concentrate on their lives and not on others. I can see the point of view of adults & the youth. I look at both sides.
All I am trying to say is that some people need to grasp reality & realise that having a whinge is not going to solve anything. In other words, get a life!

Dear Jane, you make the same mistake in your post as many other posters, and that is categorising people into black or white: "All teens are drunken hoons", and "all adults are pathetic whingers". Well, life's not like that. There are (in Greenhithe) thuggish louts, hoons, confused teens, mature young adults, etc etc. It's the first category that the anger and vitriol are being poured out on. We all did stupid shit when we were young and we had a lot of fun doing it. But we were also (unknowingly) looking for guidance as to what is and isn't acceptable, and expected severe repercussions if caught. That too was part of the thrill. So to expect adults to sit back and do nothing is a just ridiculous; a crime against human nature. So I say to all those adults smiling benignly at the hoon posts and saying 'leave them alone, they're just bored': Get a life. Do something about it. There is unacceptable behaviour going on under your noses. You are the adults, sort it out.

Well thanks for pointing out my "mistake". I'm not categorizing the teenagers or adults into anything & I just looked back at my last post & I see that I did not categorize anyone. As a matter of fact I was stating that no one was perfect so I have to say, you misinterpreted my last post.
Okay if people have a problem with some of the teenagers than sort it out & not complain on a website. If I was an annoyed adult I would do something about it, so go on then, do what you can to save Greenhithe. I fully encourage it. If it will get everyone to shut up, then lets sort out the problems. I am not expecting adults to do nothing & may I remind you I stated that I look at everyone's point of view so I do not know what you are on about when you say I have categorized all teens as "drunken hoons" and all adults as "pathetic whingers". I never said that. Not all teenagers are drunken hoons, being a teenager myself and I know that not all adults are whingers, thank God for that.
And I would appreciate it if you do not look down at my last post because for a young student, I think my opinions are more intelligent than some others.
Here's a good idea, get rid of the discussion boards on this website & then see if any action is taken & see if the whinging stops. I'm not here to argue with anyone but it looks like alot of other people are. There is too much tension building & perhaps getting rid of these discussion boards for a while may calm some people down.

I suppose given that you are in your teens you do not realise how immature and hot-headed your ramblings come across to adults using this forum. It's fine to have an opinion of course and certainly humans have the ability to form these from toddler stage onwards. However there is a difference between having an opinion versus assuming you are right and screeching it from the tree tops when you are out of your depth. Quite often this boils down to the differentiating factor of being informed versus not; or having the ability to debate in place of whiplash retaliation.
There is always capacity for extending vocab and i suggest you revise the following: respect; humility; contrived; self-indulged and manners. It is clear you spend a great deal of time thinking about yourself in a self-congratulatory manner. Let me assure you that when you do exhibit an informed and succinct opinion (preferably based on some life experience that does not include a holiday your adult parents paid for); and one that is not riddled with contrived expressions, shallow statements and outmoded ideologies; that any adult would be quick to say you have done well. If an opinion or idea truly is intelligent it does not require the person to jump up and down declaring it and herself as such. People who think they know it all really know nothing at all and are far more likely to have others pointing out their errors. "Empty vessels make the most noise" etc etc.
You have a fair way to go go young grasshopper. And there are 3 spelling errors in your previous post.
