Local area security
Hi Neighbours,
I wasn't sure where to suggest this so I thought I'd start a topic here and see how it goes.
It occurred to me that Greenhithe is perfectly situated to enable security cameras to be set up at the two entry/exit points for the area. If you've ever visited a gated community or somewhere like Pauanui you may have noticed security cameras set up at the entrance to the community. This is an excellent deterrent to out of area crims 'dropping in' for a quick 'shopping visit' at the local houses.
Greenhithe is naturally set up to suit this approach as there are only two roads in or out.
I would suggest cameras at the Greenhithe Rd overbridge and at the Motorway end of Tauhinu Road. Modern systems make this fairly reasonable financially and pretty well maintenance free. Maybe the video feeds could even be incorporated into this site!
If enough people think this has merit we could approach local businesses for sponsorship / support.
Your thoughts?

Re: Local area security
I think that most residents would find this an overkill, given the relative security we live in. the best deterrent is to keep an eye out in your local neighbourhood and investigate suspicious behaviour.
Re: Local area security
I think it's a fantastic idea. Why not have a record of who is traveling into Greenhithe, so if there are incidents, we can have some idea of where to start. Also a deterent, as mentioned. We have been fairly secure in Greenhithe, but let's stay that way. Particularly since we have the ideal setup of only two roads coming in, why not monitor them?
Re: Local area security
Yeah, let's set up a passport checkpoint and border security too. Waht a load of bollocks.
Re: Local area security
This idea was mooted many years ago but discarded because of the set up cost and ongoing running costs. It is a great idea, but the question is who would police it, vet it etc. Could also be open to abuse perhaps. Lots of ethical questions I guess.
