In my opinion this is good use of the existing facility, which is under utilised. It has no negative effects on the public amenity and has a positive influence on youth development at no cost to ratepayers. I support this proposal.

Another support here (and from a Rahui Road resident) - it is unsightly and obviously not big enough to accommodate the growing number of members, not to mention the children are currently having to use the (absolutely disgusting) adjacent public toilets!

(from David MacClement: )

· I thoroughly agree with this extension to the Sea Scouts' "Ship".

· We brought up our children in Greenhithe (the two boys were cubs in the early 1980s before the Scout movement allowed girls to join; at that time my wife was a Cubs Leader), and we still walk past the "Ship" every day.

· Our eldest works in an organisation (in Australia) with a connection to the sea; second son manages a hotel in London (UK) using skills learned partly in Scouts; and our daughter, trying to live sustainably, has a house on a NZ island with the sea at the foot of their access steps — they are admirable people and we have been very glad of the upbringing Greenhithe gave them.
